Lirix 1.0 Beta Beta

Released October 25, 2026 · based on Debian 13 "trixie" · KDE Plasma 6

The first public test version of Lirix.

Highlights

  • One USB image to try Lirix, install Lirix Desktop or install Lirix Server. Starts on UEFI (with Secure Boot) and older BIOS PCs.
  • Windows-like KDE Plasma desktop with the lily start button, double-click to open, and window buttons on the right.
  • Three themes (Lirix Light, Dark and Ocean), available from Quick Settings too, and four wallpapers up to 4K.
  • Brave as the default browser with extras and usage reports off, plus Mullvad Browser.
  • No telemetry by default, and a telemetry notice when you install an app that's known to collect data (lirix-telemetry to look one up).
  • Optional Software page in the installer: VSCodium, Sublime Text, programming languages, containers, virtualization, .NET 10, ArtCraft Launcher, LibreOffice and other everyday apps, and an SSH server. Or add them later with sudo lirix-devtools.
  • Printing and scanning: Printers page in System Settings, driverless printing, common printer drivers and the Skanlite scanning app.
  • Dual boot with Windows through "Install alongside", with Windows listed in the boot menu.
  • Lirix Server: headless, SSH always on, installs the basics without internet.

Known limitations

  • This is a Beta. So far it has mainly been tested in virtual machines. Testing on real hardware is still under way, and the system requirements are estimates.
  • 64-bit Intel/AMD PCs only. An ARM / Raspberry Pi edition is planned for later.
  • The optional software is downloaded during installation, so it needs an internet connection.
  • Some places still say "Debian" on purpose, because Lirix uses Debian's software sources and some of its installer screens unchanged. This keeps updates working.
  • Sublime Text is paid software (free to evaluate). The ArtCraft apps are early alpha from their maker.
  • The telemetry list is checked by hand. An app that isn't listed may still collect data.
